Court rejects FCC broadcast flag rule
A three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia said the FCC overstepped its bounds when it set a rule in 2003 requiring manufacturers of digital TVs to include anti-piracy technology in new sets. "The FCC has no authority to regulate consumer electronic devices that can be used for receipt of wire or radio communication when those devices are not engaged in the process of radio or wire transmission," the court said.
