Embarq begins Internet-portal switch
Embarq has begun transitioning customers with EarthLink addresses to a new company-branded Internet portal -- myembarq.com and embarqmail.com. Embarq will automatically move e-mail, contact lists and folder information when customers upgrade to the new portal. xchange (4/9)

China Mobile taps Alcatel-Lucent for TD-SCDMA network
Alcatel-Lucent affiliate Alcatel Shanghai Bell has signed on to supply TD-SCDMA equipment for China Mobile's 3G network. The equipment will enable the delivery of advanced services, such as video streaming. America's Network (4/11)
Qwest takes a nimble approach
Qwest Communications International says it believes its decision to tailor to customers' needs, both in the business and consumer sectors, has helped it achieve steady growth. Telecom Italia considers ownership-structure changes
After shareholder Pirelli's move to oust Telecom Italia's chairman Guido Rossi, the telecom appears to want to take a more active role in helping to decide who owns the company, the Financial Times reports. CANTV to come under full government control
CA Nacional Telefonos de Venezuela, dubbed the largest phone company in Venezuela, will be fully owned by the government this summer and subsequently delisted from the New York Stock Exchange. Debate arises over donations by cell phone
A consumer-advocacy group says wireless carriers may be benefiting from Text 2Help, which enables donations to be made to the American Red Cross using short codes. "This (program) gets the money there faster and is much cheaper," an AT&T Mobility spokesman said, noting that many of its customers pay no fee to donate because their contracts include a set number of free text messages.
