Alltel pursued by private-equity suitors
Providence Equity Partners and The Blackstone Group are reportedly partnered in a bid to acquire rural wireless company Alltel Corp. Other bidders paired up for the firm include TPG Capital and Goldman Sachs as well as Carlyle Group and Kohlberg Kravis Roberts. The company could fetch $30 billion. Verizon sets sights on federal contracts
Verizon Communications has announced its hopes to win several federal telecommunications service contracts worth billions of dollars. If awarded the contracts, Verizon would be responsible for overhauling the U.S. government's telecommunications services. Reuters (5/8)
Telnor acquires Denmark-based Tele2 operations

Sprint sues 14 Iowa companies for "free" chat lines
