N.J. voting to ban cell calls, texting while driving
The New Jersey state Assembly and Senate will vote today on legislation that would make calling and texting on hand-held cell phones while driving a primary offense, allowing police officers to pull over and ticket offenders. Previous New Jersey law allowed police to pull over handset-using drivers only if they also committed another driving violation. New Jersey would be the first state to pass such legislation for cell phone calls, and the second for text messaging. If passed, enforcement would begin in four months.
