AT&T invests in IP network expansion
AT&T intends to spend $750 million this year to extend the reach of its global IP network, which is twice as much as the company spent in 2006. The money is earmarked to expand AT&T's MPLS and DSL networks, as well as increase its IP VPN capabilities on a global basis. Network World (3/13)

Canadians can now take their number with them
Number portability officially debuted in Canada on Wednesday, enabling Canadians to keep their existing phone number when switching to another service, whether it be wireless or wireline. Canadian officials expect number portability to increase competition among telecom providers. Canada.com (3/14)
Cisco buys NeoPath Networks

Sources: FCC wants to keep cable cap at 30%

FCC Chairman Kevin Martin, who appeared Wednesday morning at an oversight hearing of the House Telecommunications and Internet subcommittee, reportedly will call for keeping cable's ownership cap at 30% of pay-TV households.
