Report: Developing markets to drive telecom growth, innovation

Emerging markets make up more than half the world's telecom connections and will comprise 69% by 2010, research firm Gartner predicts. MySpace eyes mobile space

Social-networking site MySpace.com is the Web's second-largest site and is expected to announce a major deal with a wireless carrier before year's end. Industry sources familiar with the matter say the mobile partner will be Cingular Wireless, BusinessWeek reports.   Bloomberg Businessweek (12/4)

Motorola, Nokia "unlock" handsets

Although "unlocked" mobile phones -- which can be used on several wireless networks -- are popular in Asia and Europe, they weren't available in North America until recently. Associated Press: FCC's Martin seeks to avert stalemate on AT&T-BellSouth vote

FCC Chairman Kevin Martin has asked his agency's general counsel whether Commissioner Robert McDowell's recusal in the agency's consideration of AT&T's acquisition of BellSouth should be reconsidered. McDowell, a former lobbyist for a trade group that opposes the merger, recused himself from voting on the deal, which is currently deadlocked at 2-2 among the other commissioners.
