NFL in talks with Sprint, others for wireless video deals

More Web surfers switch to broadband

Cable companies eye privatization to ease phone entry
In the battle to launch telephone services, cable companies are finding they must move quickly and nimbly -- something that public companies can find difficult. Worldwide Wi-Fi hotspots surpass 65,000
There are more than 65,000 Wi-Fi hotspots in 100 countries, according to JiWire, a wireless information and service provider. The U.S. is No. 1, with nearly 27,600, followed by the U.K., with almost 10,500, and Germany, with about 6,200.   TechWeb Network (6/20)

High Court rejects property rights case
The U.S. Supreme Court declined to review a case in which Qwest Communications, Level 3 Communications and others had sought a nationwide settlement in a dispute with landowners who alleged the companies violated their property rights by burying fiber-optic cable without permission. The court's decision means the companies now must seek settlements on a state-by-state basis, a potentially time-consuming and costly process.   The Denver Post (6/21) 

Adelphia's Rigases get stiff sentences
John J. Rigas, founder of Adelphia Communications, was sentenced to 15 years in prison for his role in the fraud that looted hundreds of millions of dollars from the now-bankrupt cable carrier.
