DOJ to keep a close watch on AOL's books
An independent monitor, hired and paid for by AOL, will keep the Justice Department apprised of AOL's advertising sales, and is empowered to contract with accounting firms, at AOL's expense, as part of the terms of the online firm's agreement with the U.S. government. AOL CEO Jonathan F. Miller urged all AOL staff to comply with the terms of the agreements, noting in an e-mail to employees that DOJ's "decision to defer and ultimately not seek criminal sanctions against AOL is contingent on AOL's adherence to a number of conditions."   The Washington Post (12/17)

Court allows fiber rights-of-way lawsuits to proceed
