Verizon to carry Starz movie channels
Verizon Communications has signed a deal with Starz Entertainment Group, as well as the content providers of roughly 100 television channels, as the telco prepares to enter the TV industry. Comcast's Internet service experiences technical problems
Comcast confirmed that its high-speed Internet access service has been experiencing problems this week, saying connections have been slow or nonexistent for three to five hours in the early evening. "We have been spending a lot of time upgrading our network, with new speeds and a host of new features. California PUC backs off VoIP appeal
The California state Public Utilities Commission last week voted to drop its appeal of an FCC ruling classifying VoIP as an interstate information service. "That's a loser issue," said commission President Michael R. Peevey. "VOIP is obviously an interstate service. Technology is constantly changing, and we can put our resources to better use."   Los Angeles Times (4/15) 

Florida Senate OKs municipal telecom networks
The Florida State Senate has adopted a compromise bill that would let municipalities build advanced telecom networks if they satisfy certain requirements. Under the plan, municipalities must provide notice of their network requirements to private operators and seek to have the requirements satisfied by those operators.   Telephony Online (4/14)
