BT strikes long-term network deal with Reuters
BT said it has inked a deal to provide and manage secure-data networks for news agency Reuters. The deal is worth about $3 billion. Verizon sets fiber rollout in Comcast's back yard
Verizon Communications said it is preparing to begin its fiber rollout in 24 New Jersey communities including two close to Comcast's Philadelphia home. The company said it's aiming to deploy high-speed Internet service via the new lines to 100,000 households in 10 counties by the end of 2005.   The Philadelphia Inquirer (3/10) 

Motorola delays iTunes phone announcement
Motorola delayed unveiling its first handset equipped with Apple's iTunes software after mobile unnamed phone carriers decided they wanted to delay. Motorola said it would wait until "everybody is in sync with it [the new phone]" before officially announcing it.   Chicago Tribune (3/10) 

Vonage alleges more port-blocking
Vonage is alleging that a cable company in the Midwest is blocking Vonage subscribers' phone calls. The VoIP provider declined to name the company.   TechWeb Network (3/10) 

AT&T to forge ahead with SoIP plans despite SBC deal
AT&T said it plans to aggressively pursue it services-over-IP strategy despite its planned merger with SBC Communications. The telco's SoIP services will include conference, messaging, work collaboration and more, said Behzad Nadji, VP of AT&T Labs Research.   eWeek.com (3/9) 

Report: Africa's mobile phone market booming
A new report backed by Vodafone and the Center for Economic Policy Research says Africa is the world's fastest-growing mobile phone market. The report also says mobile phone penetration in a country is positively linked to foreign investment.   BBC (3/9) 

Nokia may snare lead in 3G race before long
At first glance, Nokia appears to be lagging behind rivals in the 3G race, but that may not be the case for long, analysts say. The Finnish company holds intellectual property rights related to some of the technology crucial to 3G services, and that ultimately will mean it can sell handsets on the cheap without undercutting profits.   The Wall Street Journal (3/10)
