Agilent sells chip business
Agilent Technologies said it is selling its chip business to Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. and Silver Lake Partners for about $2.66 billion. VoIP growth: Behind the numbers
A new report by Insight Research says that although phone companies will lose about $96 billion in revenues to VoIP services by 2010, that's just a fraction of the $1.8 trillion in total expected telco revenues. The numbers suggest that VoIP growth may level off over the next several years, Light Reading says.   Light Reading (8/12) 

MVNO launches service for Spanish speakers
Movida Communications, an innovative new MVNO, is targeting Hispanics in the Los Angeles area with Spanish-language features on handsets provided by Nokia and Kyocera. Movida is riding on Sprint's network, which also will be used for mobile phone businesses run by the Walt Disney Co. and ESPN.   Los Angeles Times (8/15) 

A nationwide Google Wi-Fi net?
Business 2.0 reports that Google is buying up "dark" fiber to create a nationwide network of broadband and Wi-Fi connections that also would provide reliable geotargeting to its advertisers. Google did not comment.   Business 2.0 (9/1)

Motorola readies for WiMAX
Motorola sees great potential in Wi-Fi and it plans to roll out products and services that use the technology. The company says it is particularly enthused about the yet-to-be-certified 802.16e version of WiMAX, which is designed for mobile phones.   eWeek.com (8/15)

MCI could cost Verizon less than expected
Verizon Communications said in an SEC filing that MCI's total liabilities could reduce the price Verizon pays for MCI by up to $70 million. Verizon would have the right to reduce the price if MCI's liabilities total more than $1.775 billion when the deal closes.   The Washington Post/Reuters (8/15)
