Alltel completes spinoff of local phone assets

Alltel on Monday is expected to announce that the spinoff of its local phone business is complete. The telecom is merging the business with Valor Communications to create a new company called Windstream, which will have about 3.4 million phone lines in 16 states. Juniper bows new edge router

Analysis: KPN to feel pressure following Casema deal

Dutch telecom KPN is likely to feel the heat following a deal in which private equity firms bought cable rival Casema for $2.7 billion. KPN already is feuding with regulators about what it believes are unfair competition rules, and the Casema deal makes it even more likely that Kabelcom, another cable competitor, will be bought.   Financial Times (free content) (7/16)

Comcast to enlarge marketing deal with Wal-Mart
