Nortel hires former Cisco executive
Nortel Networks said it has named Gary Daichendt, formerly an executive with rival gear maker Cisco Systems, as its new president and COO. The move signals that Nortel is getting ready to focus heavily on IP technologies, an analyst said.   The Wall Street Journal (3/7)

Vonage hits VoIP milestone
VoIP provider Vonage said it now has more than 500,000 lines in service and that it is adding about 15,000 lines per week. Of the milestone, Vonage Chairman and CEO Jeffrey A. Some doubts about mobile TV
Companies are forging ahead with their plans to offer mobile TV services even though it's not yet clear whether consumers have any interest in the technology. Cox announces VoIP plans
MSO Cox Communications and telephony partner Nortel Networks have announced plans to upgrade Cox's local phone service from circuit-switched to a hybrid model that also will support VoIP. Cablevision tells Sears that Voom service will continue
Cablevision Systems executives have told the retail giant that a deal has been reached to save the Voom satellite-TV service. A spokeswoman for Sears, Roebuck and Co., the largest seller of Voom services, says it has been assured that Voom will carry on.   The Wall Street Journal (3/7)
