MCI seen as acquisition target
With AT&T probably going to SBC Communications, analysts are turning their attention to MCI, which has been mentioned as a possible takeover target for Verizon Communications, BellSouth and Qwest. MCI is sitting on a pile of cash, and although it may not be as valuable as AT&T, it would be a nice catch, analysts say.   NYTimes.com (1/29)

Time Warner broadband customers to get free AOL accounts
Time Warner's cable unit will offer its broadband customers free accounts with America Online. Survey: DSL perceived as inexpensive, but not fast
A survey by Accenture found that consumers perceive DSL service as being much cheaper than cable-modem service, but not as fast. The survey also found that consumers aren't interested in most value-added content and that telcos' efforts to market DSL service as more reliable than cable haven't made a deep impact.   Telephony Online (1/28)
