Lucent wins big IPTV deal with Telefonica
Lucent Technologies won a contract with Telefonica to develop and deploy the Spanish carrier's IPTV middleware platform. Under the deal, Lucent will be charged with introducing new features, as well as marketing the technology to service providers. Cisco looks to college students for broadband content ideas
Cisco Systems has formed a partnership with mtvU, a subsidiary of MTV Networks, to fund projects by college students that focus on digital content for broadband. Amazon, InPhonic team to sell mobile phones, service plans
Amazon.com has formed a partnership with InPhonic to sell mobile phones and service plans via Amazon. Under the deal, Amazon will integrate Inphonic's WireFly online store into its site by the third quarter of this year. MarketWatch (4/20)

EarthLink: EarthLink posted a first-quarter profit of $16.4 million, compared with a year-earlier profit of $33.3 million. The company said it lost 179,000 premium dial-up Internet subscribers, but it added 125,000 low-cost dial-up subscribers and 85,000 broadband/digital phone customers. Reuters (4/20)
