Google not aiming to become national Wi-Fi player

Satcasters lag in airwaves auction

Wireless DBS, the partnership between top satellite companies EchoStar Communications and the DirecTV Group Inc., started the federal airwaves auction as the top qualifier, with a $972.5 million deposit, representing 648 million bidding units. Senator pushes for Wi-Fi in smaller communities

Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., is spearheading an effort to get smaller towns and rural areas to develop their own Wi-Fi networks. Schumer's proposal would provide tax incentives for companies installing Wi-Fi networks in such regions and provide funding for municipalities to install the networks.   Wireless Week (8/15)

FCC phone line decision upheld by court
