The economy is sending mixed signals, AT&T CEO Randall Stephenson said, making it tougher than usual to figure out which direction it is heading -- a puzzling situation in which consumers are eager to spend on telecom but businesses remains wary. AT&T's U-verse video service will carry Univision's three new Spanish-language services covering novelas, sports and news under a deal that will allow AT&T customers a chance to watch them on streaming services across the carrier's wireless and online platforms as well. Also at U-verse TV, AT&T has suspended its service under which subscribers can convert an Xbox 360 into an IPTV set-top box. 3. Verizon to expand 100-Gbps metro service with Ciena gear

With plans to expand its 100-gigabits-per-second deployments in metro networks around the globe in 2013, Verizon Communications will employ Ciena's 5430 Reconfigurable Switching System for easier network management. 8. FiOS reaches record high on satisfaction survey

Verizon Communications' FiOS TV service scored an all-time high mark for pay-TV providers on the American Customer Satisfaction Index's annual survey in which the telecom scored a 74 -- on a 100-point index -- a slight increase from a year ago. As a whole, pay-TV companies averaged a 66 for the third year running. AT&T's U-verse also scored an above-average grade to finish in third place ahead of all of the cable companies.
