AT&T technology changed communications but couldn't save company

The invention of the transistor in 1947 by AT&T's Bell Labs paved the way for an "information revolution" in the last half of the 20th century, The Wall Street Journal says. Ironically, the transistor and other important technologies that came out of Bell Labs eventually led to AT&T's eventual downfall as a telecom powerhouse, the paper says.
