WorldCom fraud extends back to 1997, witness says

Improper accounting methods were used as early as 1997 by WorldCom, the company's former controller said yesterday in the trial of Bernard J. Ebbers. The court also heard testimony from the handler of Ebbers' accounts at Bank of America, who said she threatened to sell his stock in the company after he failed to meet a margin call.
