High Court rejects property rights case

The U.S. Supreme Court declined to review a case in which Qwest Communications, Level 3 Communications and others had sought a nationwide settlement in a dispute with landowners who alleged the companies violated their property rights by burying fiber-optic cable without permission. The court's decision means the companies now must seek settlements on a state-by-state basis, a potentially time-consuming and costly process.
