Court issues new ruling in RIM patent case

A federal appeals court yesterday issued a new opinion in a patent infringement case against Research in Motion, maker of the BlackBerry device. The decision scales back a previous ruling in a case that found RIM guilty of violating numerous wireless e-mail patents held by NTP. Analysts said the opinion could slow down legal proceedings against RIM and therefore delay a possible injunction that would halt BlackBerry sales in the U.S.
