IPTV may be springboard for telcos

IPTV may provide the foothold telcos need in their battle with MSOs, and its bandwidth efficiency may ease transition to on-demand programming, according to Arlen Communications president Gary Arlen. SBC Communications, BellSouth and Verizon Communications each will launch unique versions of IPTV systems nationwide as early as this year.
