Verizon, MCI file S-4 with SEC
Verizon Communications and MCI filed an S-4 registration statement with the SEC, signaling that MCI would hold a shareholder vote at some point in the near future. MCI's board plans to seek an improved offer from Verizon following Verizon's move to acquire MCI shareholder Carlos Slim Helu's 13% stake in the Ashburn, Va., based telco. Meanwhile, Qwest is seeking a cash infusion from private equity companies as part of an effort to gain flexibility for another offer.
