7-Eleven answers call for phone service

For more than a year, convenience store chain 7-Eleven has been a cell phone service provider, stocking six mobile phone models at 5,500 stores. The company leases network space from established providers and sells prepaid service to consumers, with an eye toward reaching the reported 35% of Americans who are not cell phone users.
