Washington, D.C., area loses status as telecom hotbed
After a prosperous run in the late '90s, many Washington, D.C.-area telcos are struggling just to stay afloat. A good number of the region's telcos were victims of government regulations that encouraged companies to invest heavily in fiber-optic networks, according to Scott C. Cleland, an analyst with the Precursor Group.
