AT&T CEO: Consumers are spending but businesses are not

The economy is sending mixed signals, AT&T CEO Randall Stephenson said, making it tougher than usual to figure out which direction it is heading -- a puzzling situation in which consumers are eager to spend on telecom but businesses remains wary. "Hiring and putting people on payroll -- that's when our business catches leverage and starts to take off. We're still not seeing that," he said in an interview with Bloomberg last week.
