NG 9-1-1 technology is aimed at helping dispatchers, but text message volumes, computer skills and the amount of information delivered to dispatchers all pose challenges, according to speakers at the NENA conference. Texting limits opportunity to form a human connection, and speakers said the ability to transmit images and video means it's inevitable that dispatchers will eventually see something traumatic. But the possible benefits outweigh downsides, experts said. "More information is beneficial to everyone," said Shelle Goforth of Spokane County (Wash.) 9-1-1.
